River City Squash is developing an after-school program for at-risk children and youth in Kamloops.
History
The organization was founded in the fall of 2007, when it was incorporated as a non-profit society; registered charitable status was attained in May 2009. Squash courts were closed in Kamloops for several years, and when the new courts opened at No Limits Fitness in 2013, we began working to start the program again. We ran sessions with several community partners, including the Boys and Girls Club, the Full Circle Youth Centre, and Puddle Jumpers Daycare, and in the winter and spring of 2016 we began sessions with our first school partner, Brocklehurst Middle School. Danica Silver, the Learning Assistance Resource teacher, helped to build and guide the program, and came to the sessions to help on and off the courts. In December of 2016, with the assistance of principal Deb Piggin, we began sessions with our second school partner, Arthur Hatton Elementary School, and in the spring of 2017, with the help of principal Deanna Brady, we began sessions with our third school partner, AE Perry Elementary School.
Our Mission
Our mission is to engage at-risk youth to achieve their full potential. We seek to build motivation, through an engaging environment, and to expand and enrich each participant's life experience.
